
Laura Friedman, MS, CCC-SLP is a certified speech-language pathologist. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing sciences and received her master’s degree in communication disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas at The Callier Center for Communication Disorders. She holds a Certificate for Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is an active member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Texas Speech-Language Hearing Association (TSHA).
Laura has experience in both the public and private school settings, and has spent a significant portion of her time in the university clinic and private clinic based settings. She has worked with children exhibiting a wide variety of speech and language disorders. These include receptive and expressive language impairments, articulation disorders, severe motor speech disorders and childhood apraxia of speech, fluency disorders, autism spectrum disorders, social communication disorder, Down syndrome, oral motor disorders, feeding disorders and auditory impairments and other developmental delays. Laura is recognized on the Apraxia Kids website under preferred providers for her high level of experience and skill in assessing and treating children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
Laura specializes in a variety of treatment techniques for speech and language issues with dedicated training in PROMPT, Edythe Strand’s Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) approach for treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Nancy Kaufman Apraxia System, Beckman Oral Motor Program, Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S.) Approach to feeding, Lori Overland Feeding Therapy, Talk Tools Oral Placement Therapy, and the Auditory-Verbal approach related to hearing impairment. She also has experience with the Social Thinking Concepts and Curriculum by Michelle Garcia Winner, adding to her expertise in developing social language skills.
Laura believes in the importance of a positive and fun therapy environment centered around each individual’s needs. She also emphasizes the importance of family involvement to encourage the greatest success in therapy. Laura cherishes her role as a speech therapist because of her ability to impact the lives of children and families. She will work closely with you and/or your child to comprehensively evaluate, diagnose and formulate individualized therapy for each client.
